Free Energy Audits for Ten Homes in Historic District

The Town of Chestertown has been awarded a CLG Energy Efficiency Initiative grant by the Maryland Historical Trust and the Maryland Energy Administration.  The grant will be used to conduct free energy audits on ten selected homes in the Historic District.  The purpose of the grant is to develop energy efficiency case studies for historic homes that can be used throughout the state.

If you are interested in applying, please download the attached form and return it by mail or in person to the Town Office at 118 N. Cross Street, or email it to kees.chestertown@verizon.net.  The deadline for applications is May 21, 2010.  Homes will be selected by a local panel based on criteria established by the Maryland Historical Trust, including size of home, architectural style, location, and willingness to conduct recommended energy efficiency treatments.  The grant funds will pay for a free initial audit, a set of recommendations approved by Maryland Historical Trust and the Chestertown Historic District Commission, and a follow-up audit to measure the energy savings once the recommended work is completed.  The cost of the recommended energy efficiency upgrades shall be the responsibility of the home owner.  Home owners may be eligible for federal tax credits and other funding to assist with the cost of energy efficiency work.

Copies of the application can be downloaded and are available at the Town Office. If you have any questions, call Kees de Mooy at 410-778-0500.
